As the 4th of July approaches I wanted to craft something red, white, and blue to celebrate this great country. There are tons of painted mason jars, paper buntings, finger-painted fireworks, and patriotic quotes on distressed wood palettes scattered across Pinterest and Etsy bursting with stars and stripes. They're all adorable and perfect for making your Independence day pop, but I wanted to make something different. I decided on something more subtle — it still has the red, white, and blue color scheme but the outline of the United States is subtle enough that this piece encourages a double-take to really appreciate. You can blend it in with your normal decor and leave it up all year long while still paying tribute to your homeland.
Once again, this craft is all thanks to thrift shopping. I always check out the fabrics in a thrift shop, looking for fun patterns or bold colors. Hint: don't ignore the scarves! The fabric I used for this craft is actually a scarf, in fact many of my crafts are made with scarf fabric! I've also had great luck finding embroidery hoops in thrift shops that are cheaper and more unique than the average embroidery hoop at Michaels.
Difficulty: Moderate
Time to Craft: 3 Hours
